Here’s a few to start it off.
Copious amounts of silicone, the obvious alternative to weather tight connectors!
This wire nut below was melted to the plastic lid of the transfer switch. Scary!

Just put them under show us “your” system, with a ![]()
Lol. The category should be called -How did they not die?
That being said fire and electrical seems to be all too common these days.
Reminds of a person who once poured water (ignoring a strategically placed powder fire extinguisher) over an unexplained fire in my genny. I was amazed that no one got hurt and the genny wasn’t at all damaged!
To be fair, this isn’t the sort of content we desire on a technical forum which is supposed to be focused and specific to Victron systems and the knowledgebase in general.
We’ve all seen horror stories and near misses, but this is a little bit facebooky for the community.
Oh come on! It is very educational. That’s why we need a specific category for it. That way it won’t show up other places and be facebooky.
Thanks, Nick. There’s already enough negativity on this forum. Let’s not encourage more of it.
As a former gas fitter and registered on gas safe register, our monthly periodical newsletter always has two pages on poor workmanship, helps you spot problems early.
Hi @TherealKT,
From my perspective there is already a lot of this kind of content already out there in the internet, especially where it is general wiring mistakes.
There is a use on this site for showing what not to do, but here I think it’s best to stay focused on things specific to Victron products.
I am not seeing enough of that to dedicate a new category, though some products such as Orion XS, and the MPPTs seem to generate a lot of wiring questions.
Where there have been additional categories created in the past, it’s been because there was so much ‘organic’ content that it was overwhelming the general channels. Or in the case of node red, where there was a very specific niche that we did want to encourage and help keep organised.
