Can i short MPPT input as a safety feature? i.e. emergency stop

hello,

as in %subj%,there are probably some capacitors inside mppt, that should not be any problem, but maybe ther could be some backflow for a split second that would result in damage?

we have some “smart” requirement (czech republic) that any equipment must be below 120V for safety reasons in case of fire (not sure where they found this voltage),so one way is to split strings, pull twice the amount of cables(yeah,”safe”),another way is to short it (and you have 0V)..if you split it,you can have ~100V parts..

so,if i can short it,it would be super easy,if not,i need to make sure to trip breakers before short..

(we are talking about 250/100,but i guess this is generic for victron)

thanks for your time guys!

You will laugh, but Victron itself has such feature for exactly your model, a relay inside the unit, that in some cases is shorting the MPPT input terminals in order to prevent further damage…

Read here about that relay and its reset: MPPT Solar Charger PV Short Relay Reset [Victron Energy]

oh yeah,i remember reading this, but since it is not user trigger-able,i dismissed it,but excellent idea they did this,so it should be safe…i’m kinda scared of shorts,so i will be very far when testing this
