Campervan Storage

HI all,
I heard it was a good idea to set the SOC to 50% if not being used for extended periods, lets say 3 months. When at home, I typically have my fridge running all the time, but this isn’t necessary as it has only a couple of things in it. So I could remove them if need be. The solar keeps the batteries topped, during the day, SOC is usually 98%.

Question: is it a good idea to store at 50% in this scenario or just let it be ticking along happily fluctuating between 85-98% SOC.

If the answer is yes to “its a good idea to store at 50%”, how to go about configuring the smart shunt (i’ve attached existing config below.)

  • Smart Shunt
  • 420Ah lifepo4
  • Smart Shunt
  • Smartsolar MPPT
  • Cerbo gx
  • MP2
  • etc

thanks in advance

The ‘if it is not being used’ statement refers to if the battery is completely disconnected and placed in storage.
If you have monitoring and other stuff connected leave it to cycle correctly. It is especially important to reach full charge for cell balancing to keep them healthy.

thanks for your knowledge LX
The batteries never reach 100%, I suspect that’s because there is always a load on it. If they should, maybe my configuration is incorrect.

There is a pretty neat post here about common issues.
