Broken at first install

reference is 10+ years in Solar industry, with large project RFQ’s requiring different alloys to prevent this problem. Also 20 years in marine environment. Good quality nuts & bolts should be stamped with the alloy, A2 for 304 and A4 for 316.

So this bolt head does have room for S316 being the alloy. Often you will find 8.8 on M8 ss bolts as well, indicating shear stress.
As far as the Techs not knowing: 1) educate the techs, 2) ensure purchasing know to order bolts in 316 and nuts in 304. Also 304 is magnetic, so can be sorted from 316 which is not.

Mike: OK. I will continue to apply anti-seize to all bolted fasteners.

Me too.

I do not even use a Torque-Driver and never haf problems in the last 7 years (my first big Victron install with Inverter).

What do you mean?

It show clearly S316 00 on it.

Oh…

“Also 304 is magnetic, so can be sorted from 316 which is not.”

This is intetesting, because all of my A2/S304 Fittings (Water installation) is not magnetic at all.

Nickel or Copper anti sieze paste.

and with a little superglue ???
