Break in AC Output

I am little concerned about a couple of occasions where when the generator has kicked it there has been a momentary break in power, enough to cause everything to be turned off.

Is there any way of checking where the issue may be? Or are there any common issues like this and things I could check? The generator always kicks in when the conditions are met and is serviced regularly and seems to be running as usual.

Any help and advice would be most welcome.

Thank you. Paul

Or is it something to do with the inverter? I would like to think not as it was only installed in May. It’s a MultiPLus II 48|15000|200.

Could you please describe your problem in a little more detail?

And please describe your system setup a little so that readers here can understand.

There is always a delay in the transfer from inverter to shore power(generator). No delay in the transfer from shore to inverter.

Hi, well as above really. When the start/stop conditions set on the Ekrano are met then the generator does kick in. However, on couple of occasions as the generator has started, (it would seem like) there has been a total loss of AC output. I noticed it today when the generator started as momentarily all power was lost to the property. Speculating it could be when the Inverter moves from “inverting” “external control”.

I think the installation is fairly standard. I have four sets of solar panels on individual strings, a 15kWh BYD battery storage and the MultiPLus II 48|15000| Inverter. The generator is a 16kVa/13.2Kw Perkins P18-6. It has been with me for 5 years though it was used for the legacy system, so it has probably been in for about 8 years in total. The engine side of it has been serviced regularly. I have included a diagram of the installation.

Hi, not sure what you mean by “shore” power. However, this has never happened before. Even with my legacy lead/acid batteries using the same generator.

This is something that has occured once maybe twice in the last couple of weeks but enough to for me to have noticed it. I have provided more detail in a reply below.

Thanks for the nice picture.

Did you program warm-up and cool-down times?

What exactly did you program at Multiplus?

What firmware do you have on the MP?

Hi, sorry, I have been away for a few days and then busy. As ever, the issue isn’t happening every time - not always a good thing when you are trying to diagnose.

There isn’t a warm up time set within the GenSet. The reason being is that the generator itself has a 30 second warm up so I didn’t feel it necessary. I will be happy to receive any thoughts on that though.

Also, the GUI/software you have shown me above I am not familiar with. It looks like a very “windows” based GUI. Anything I have ever viewed has been via the Ekrano.

There is a good chance that the issue may be caused by the need for a firmware update but I have not done this yet as I have not been able to find where the MultiplusII settings are stored, how to save them or how to reload them if necessary. I have a lot of things that will need managed power-downs before I do the update as I believe there will be a break in AC output.

Still trying to find out whether it is best to do the update via a phone and the Connect app or as I usually do through a laptop on the same network. Though maybe if all power is lost phone is better (as the router will also be off).

Happy to hear any thoughts.

Thank you. Paul
