look for an open circuit, or high resistance point in the charging circuit.

sorry i sort of dont understand how a open or high resistance would cause the charger to show a higher voltage to the shunt or the mppt which both are the same have checked and all is tight

mike you were right i found a faulty fitting

Lose contact = high resistance. Once the charger starts, the charge current makes a voltage across that resistance that ADDS to the battery voltage - as seen by the charger.
