Best way to monitor 2 lithium batteries connected in parallel?

Hi,

I would like to monitor two lithium batteries connected in parallel on my boat. Do I need to provide a Smartshunt IP65 for both batteries or just one Smartshunt for the entire battery pack?

Thank you for your advice.

Louis

With 1 smartshunt for the pack you’ll have all but one information…you won’t know if both batteries are actually working.

I have that situation, and once in a while , when my wife is pulling 2kw, i take my clamp amperemeter and check that both batteries deliver their half of the load.

But i’m on the road…

If the batteries have bluetooth enabled BMSs inside then you can see they are both OK, then you need only 1 SmartShunt. If you have a GX device then you should only have 1 shunt for the whole battery bank as the GX device can only use 1 shunt for the controlled battery bank.

Thank you very much. So I think that I should monitor with one smarthsunt for each one to get the max security on Lifepo

Then actually you should use 3..

One for the GX device, two for you

But, as @pwfarnell said, only if your batteries have NO bluetooth communication
