Battery Charging Properly

The solar charger does not charge the batteries. I have the inverter set to “charging”. Is this correct or will the batteries not charge with this setting?

Please describe your system in more detail, what devices and battery are you using?

I have 3 Battle Born 100 amp Lithium batteries, a solar charger and an inverter. I’ve attached a picture.

Is there a detailed guide on what the settings should be and/or how can I tell the solar is charging the batteries. As I mentioned yesterday, the inverter is set to charging, but the SOC keeps dropping

Typical reason MPPT does not charge is because you have a poor connection between the panels and the MPPT or the MPPT and the battery. When the MPPT is trying to charge (sun shining) use a multimeter to check the panel voltage in at the MPPT, battery voltage at the MPPT terminals and battery terminal voltage. Also check the battery settings does not have the charger disabled. Post a screenshot of your battery settings and the status page.

The Multiplus setting has no bearing on the MPPT charging. The Multiplus setting of charging only impacts the Multiplus and it needs shorepower to charge.

go to www.victronenergy.com, go to products menu, drill down to get your product then click on downloads button to get to the manuals.

Please post both the MPPT settings and also the Multiplus charger settings.

Here are my settings from this morning. Camper is in full sun.

The batteries are full, they are at 14.4V according to the SmartShunt and the MPPT is saying it is pretty full. I do not think you have a charging issue, I think you have a SmartShunt measuring issue not measuring the solar input so it is not increasing, nor setting to 100%. I have a feeling that you have connected the negative wire from the MPPT direct to the battery negative, this wire needs to go to the SmartShunt system terminal so the current flows through the SmartShunt so it can be measured. Your settings look OK.

The clue to the SmartShunt is the MPPT is being limited in output because the battery is full, but the battery is still discharging, the battery should show a positive current in this case.
