Are Victron firmware mods allowed?

As per title, I am asking before about this in order for this topic to not have the fate of the Pylontech firmware topic.

This is about Victron products.
Venus OS mods are allowed but, I know, not supported. But allowed.

In the same way, a topic about modification of Victron various products’ firmware will be allowed?
I mean, if someone will post a modded firmware, will be moderated and/or deleted?

Thanks.

Impossible to say without more specifics.

The intent matters, I’d say trying to run modified firmware on victron hardware is more likely to be allowed, but warranty voiding.

Trying to run victron modified firmware on other manufacturers hardware most likely not to be allowed, but perhaps there could be an exception I can’t think of.

Thank you for response and raising a valid point about clones.

Posting such file and/or the way of obtaining and/or modifying that file, while having an initial good intent for fixing bugs or introducing additional features, may and can be used for cloning (or making products similar with) your hardware much easily.

In a similar vein, it would be nice if there was access to a library of help notes for the repair of certain older Victron products that would be accessible to professional engineers & techs.
This could include block diagrams and notes on certain common faults, and their causes??
Wishful thinking…

I just stumbled upon this thread, but now I am curious: Is it even possible to apply custom modifications to compiled firmwares of Victron devices? This would really help me a lot but I did not find any information on this so I thought it werent possible.

You didn’t find any info on this because the firmware is encrypted and the manufacturer is not forthcoming on this…
Victron, probably, choose to do this to protect the intellectual property from the ones that want to copy their products.

Others didn’t do that (for example MPP Solar, a Taiwanese company) and the firmware was not encrypted and therefore a lot of variations on their initial design made by several companies. See Deye, Growatt, EASun, etc.
And that started a snowball that it’s still rolling and keeps rolling and the competition will be fierce in the next years.

Back to your original question, yes, you can apply modifications, if you know how to read/decrypt, modify and then put all back.

Thank you very much for your answer - It is about what I expexted.
Unfortunatly, I know not very much about microcontroller programming with all my experience being achieved with Arduino IDE. So I guess I have at the moment no chance to figure out how to decrypt, modify and encrypt the firmware myself and I guess I will not find many information on the internet either.
Then I will just continue to hope that the Victron developers pick up my feature request.
