Anyone try setting VE.Bus State to Pass-Thru using nodered?

You can read this item in Settings and supposedly set it in VE.Bus System Control.

I have not had a chance to try this one out yet but might have time to try this in the next couple of weeks unless someone comes back with a definite “it does not work” reply.

I am interested in the possibility of setting my MP2s into Pass-Thru mode since setting the charging current to zero does not seem to be possible when grid power is available.

If PassThrough is what you actually desire, I’d change the topic subject.

Just tested: I can put my Multi in PassThrough using Node Red, but the ESS assistant will immediately return it to normal operation.

Good to know. I am not using ESS. My system is mostly for critical load backup when the grid goes down. But I also take advantage of the batteries to time-shift some of my electricity usage.

So dess without using dess?

In a sense - but in reading the ess documentation it seems like all of the control features are assuming that I have solar and want to feed power back to the grid. I have no solar - surrounded by cedar trees. I must not feed power back to the grid. I do have a sizeable difference between off-peak and on-peak power cost. I also get to enjoy a fair number of short grid-loss features each year, usually culminating with one or two multi-day events in the winter. So, I have enough battery to get my critical loads through a one week outage plus some buffer to time-shift. The system will never pay for itself but that was never the intention. It makes home-life a bit easier and as a bonus it shaves a few dollars off the utility bill each month.

Sounds like you seek more control over your charge and discharge scheduling or do you need pass-thru?

I use ess, don’t do grid feed in.
There is a schedule built in for battery and pv etc. but even without pv it is useful

I will re-read the ess documentation. Pass-thru just felt like it might be a match for my use and after wasting a week trying to adjust charging current with nodered I decided to ask about this pass-thru.

The system automatically goes into passthrough when the battery min soc set is reached so ESS pretty much meets requirements there.
Then during the day you can schedule about 5 different slots for different socs

With a different schedule for weekends? We are off-peak all weekend. I use that time to bring the battery back to 100%. It drifts down during the week.

Yes you can set different days and times, durations, target soc.

Sounds good. Now to get a grid code and time to work on the system. Until then it is just reading and going through demo screens.
