Adding backup generator - help please

Hi!

I am fully off-grid and not very experienced in the solar and power world. I have a Victron multi plus2, cerbo gx, 28 pylontech us2000 and 1 pylontech US 5000 and an LV hub to connect all the batteries. The large number of batteries are in preparation for expanding the whole setup to add 2 more inverters and another 16 solar panels. Right now only 8 panels. For now this the the current set up. Due to some bad weather in the past few days I am already not meeting my energy needs and loose power early in the morning. The weather forecast continues to be stormy and cloudy for the next week and so I have bought at backup generator to help recharge the batteries.

I got a Genergy Creta sol 7,500w . This is specific for solar back up as i understand it provides stable output .

The victron inverter is already wired with AC input to a plug amd AC output is also wired. This was done at during installation of the system. Does this mean I can just plug my gas generator in and push start? What other setting in the display do I need to change, like the input current limit etc. ? I really don’t want to kill the system by doing something wrong at this stage.

In the future I would like to look into automatic start stop but for now I would like to just install and start manually to get through the next week and push power when needed for necessities like lights, hot water and refrigerator.

I’m happy to provide more details if needed

Any insight or advice is very much appreciated. Thank you!

I don’t run a generator, so do more research.

What do you mean just plug in the generator? I take it that you have no grid/shore power so you would connect the Genny to the multi’s AC-In? Are your multi and Genny of similar AC voltage? If so, that’s correct.

I’m not familiar with your genny. Is the 7500W continuous or peak? If it is continuous, that’s about 32.6A at 230V. I would set the current limit, via VE Config to about 30A to protect the Genny. (The figures will be different if you are working with another AC voltage). There’s is no guarantee that the multi will accept your genny. Note that your genny may not to first warm up before achieving it’s rated power output.

Look at your multi settings esp the charge tab in VE Config to protect the batteries. Are they as specified by Victron/PylonTech?

Thanks for responding.
