I have an old tugboat with a new Victron system — 3x200ah 24.5 Smart Batteries, Lynx, Cerbo, 2x Quattro’s 5k. I am about to install a new internally-regulated Delco clone alternator 24v 60amp. The alternator has a set voltage of 27.5, and my batteries have a float voltage of 27. Is this a problem?
That gives ~3.375V per cell at float. Max volt per cell - assuming perfect balance would be 3.4375V. So no big issue, but you will not get the full capacity of the battery - but only by a fraction. On the plus side, the batteries will last longer due to reduced internal corrosion at “full” charge.
