10kVA Quattro Clicking and Overload at mid-loads

Hi All,

I’ve got an issue on site. It’s a 3 phase installation w/ 3 x 10kVA Quattros, 2 x 12kW Fronius Symo + 800kWh battery bank.

System has been working as expected at least the past 6 weeks, but recently the L3 inverter has been going straight into overload, no warning, just alarm and shut down. Looking at the VRM data (and downloaded csv) it doesnt look like there is much load on the inverter when this is happening (~7kW).

Its also making a strange clicking sound as per the video below.

There is a chance it is a load issue, though this seems unlikely since it has been running fine before this and it doesn’t sound like any new loads have been connected.

Has anyone come across something like this before?

Cheers,
Jethro

I have heard a similar sound on a 15kVa. Load and wiring related issue. Long story there.

The best thing to do it isolate it. Set it to defaults and test it.

Alot of work but will show whether it is install or wiring related.

I have just had a Quattro 230v / 48v 8000w inverter installed and 4 weeks later mine is doing the same thing. I am not very tech savvy and so do not know how to isolate it etc and test it. Is it dangerous to use between now and getting it to a victron service centre?

I cannot answer that for certain. Sorry. Crystal ball ran outta battery

For the most part of nothing is loose or has an insulation problem is should be ok.
Keep an eye on anything working or otherwise installation related that might be getting hot.
Some loads can cause a clicking in the inverter by the way they chop the sine wave. So if you notice for example it happens when an air fryer or other appliance is used it can be that.

Moat uncomfortable clicking noises tend to come from hair related appliances being used on power settings below full power.
Not limited to hair products, some coffee machines do it, things that have variable power settings and use cost effective power supplies.

We have checked that nothing is loose and it happens on and off all the time but quietly when the load is low and louder and more intense when we turn a high power item on. We almost have to leave it on as we use it for our starlink and thats the only communication we have at the moment… but it might be nice to have a hot drink or food once in a while. All cables are tight. Thanks for your input

Thankfully we don’t have any hair care devices.. but it happens with anything so i can’t even blame an individual item’s sine wave. I think we will just have to do without for a month until we get to a service centre. Thank you for your input.
