Yanmar 3JH40 alternator rated 125A but 2 x Orion XS 12V-12V/50A charge LiFePo4 bank only at 40A

Brand new Beneteau sailing boat Oceanis 37.1 2025

Yanmar 3JH40 motor, alternator rated 125A

2 x Victron SmartLithium 12V/200A

2 x Orion XS 12V-12V/50A

1 x Cerbo GX

1 x Lynx Smart BMS

Battery bank starts charging at 80A but after a few minutes charge drops to 40A

What can I do to charge at higher amps?

  • change Orions settings?
  • change Yanmar alternator regulator (i.e. Balmar)?
  • change Yanmar alternator (i.e. Balmar)?

Thanks!

Adding a smart alternator regulator with remote voltage sensing may help your issue.
You may also be able to leave the dc/dc converters out, and have the Alternator regulator controlled by the Cerbo. Not sure but several makes accept CAN communications from the Cerbo. This helps when charging lithium batteries when the Battery BMS also communicates to the Cerbo.
