My sailboat like so many others came with three separate battery switches from the factory, i.e. (1) ON/OFF for house battery (2) ON/OFF for starter battery (2) ON/OFF negative.
I have just upgraded my house bank to lithium and in order to protect the alternator I have wired in a DC - DC charger.
I have followed the instructions exactly but there is this nagging voice that keeps telling me I am missing something very important.
Here’s the schematic of the boat’s electrical system overlayed with the changes that I’ve made to install the DC to DC charger. The new wiring that I’ve added (I haven’t shown the fuses) are illustrated using dashed lines.
Are you using the convertor as a charger or as a power supply, since you shared the diagram for use as a power supply? And where did you connect the convertor input and outputs to? To the battery switches or directly to the batteries? In the later case, if for whatever reason the convertor accidentally on it will slowly drain your starter battery. Up to you to if you see that as a risk.
I just got confirmation from a tech at Victron that this is indeed correct so no need to touch the battery switches other than to connect to the negative post.
