OFFGRID MultiPlus-II 48/5000 & Pylontech US5000

How to set it up, I can’t get it to work

It keeps drawing power from the mains
Battery is full
There is a lot of sun (southern Spain)

Inverter = EXTERNAL CONTROL

I have installed ESS AssistantPurpose: OFFGRID → battery use only, mains connection in emergency
The setup:
1pcs Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50,
1pcs Cerbo GX MK2 and display,
2pcs Pylontech US5000 batteries,
1pcs Victron SmartSolar MPPT (DC-coupled PV)
Power in 1-phase (32A) AC
OUT 1 = home/house installation
OUT 2 = empty

Did you follow the doc?

Your system is not offgrid, since it does have a mains connection. You dont want to draw power from it, but thats a completely different thing. Did you follow the ESS guide

1. ESS introduction & features

Did you set the gridsetpoint to 0?

Hello Nick
I did read it, but I can’t find the problem.
I removed the ESS again,
but it keeps drawing power from the grid and even charging the battery from the grid.
The MPPT has sufficient solar power but does nothing.

Something is off in your installation and/or configuration.
You will need to go through it step by step and check the wiring fuses, configuration etc.

Just to add where it says “DC Loads” mine shows solar chargers. Also if you don’t have DC loads, untick that in Cerbo.

I had already done that too, but it takes time for it to be visually adjusted.

@nickdb is spot on. Your smartsolar MPPT is off line. Check it.

Is it connected to the Cerbo via VE CAN or VE Direct? In the right ports?

CONNECTIONS

MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50
POWER IN comes from the NET via a 32A single-phase fuse
OUT1 output goes to household consumers (fuse box)

  • & - goes to Lynx (48Vdc)
VE BUS (left) goes to Cerbo GX MK2 via UTP cable
VE BUS (right) goes to MK3 USB laptop

SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can 250/100 rev2
2 circuits with 5 solar panels each

  • & - goes to Lynx (48Vdc)
VE CAN goes to Cerbo GX MK2 VE CAN1

Cerbo GX MK2
VE CAN 1 goes to MPPT VE CAN
VE CAN 2 goes to 1st (top) Pylontech battery US5000
USB goes to display
HDMI goes to display

1st (top) Pylontech battery US5000
A CAN goes to Cerbo GX MK2 VE CAN 2

  • & - goes to Lynx (48Vdc)
Link port 1 goes to 2nd (bottom) Pylontech battery US5000 Link port 0

2nd (bottom) Pylontech battery US5000

  • & - goes to Lynx (48Vdc)
Link port 0 goes to 1st (top) Pylontech battery US5000 Link port 1

What is baud rate of ve can1 where the smartsolar is connected? I don’t recall the default setting but it does no harm to double check that setting on Cerbo. The correct speed is 250kb/s.

Also, it’s not normal to have both the Cerbo and the MK3 connected at the same time.

If that fails, connect the charger with a ve direct (or ve direct to USB) cable to test.

One will block the other and break the system.
