Odd Voltage Drop

Travel trailer with factory solar wiring from roof to spot for controller then on to batteries. I get a voltage drop from 18 volts measured by voltmeter from the cables, but it drops to only 7 volts when actually connected to 100/30 Vitron controller. If I run a pair of wires bypassing the onboard wiring it works just dandy. I get the same result when using a different brand controller. 2 200 watt generic panels. Ideas? I should also note the factory wiring came with reverse polarity which I solved merely by connecting positive and negative to the proper connectors on the controller.

sounds like a damaged cable, or the “reverse polarity protection” is now a dead diode…

Replace or bypass the cable with something good.

I was afraid of that, but was hoping for a miracle cure. Hopefully it’ll be under warranty and the manufacturer can pay for the repair.
