Hello
I have 36 x JA Solar Panels 545W in 4 strings of 9 panels to each tracker input of an MPPT RS 450/200. However power output is limited to a potential 11520 KW on MPPT output. I intend to add an extra MPPT RS 450/100 and rearrange the panels in 6 strings of 6 panels with the extra strings connected to the 2 x tracker inputs of the additional charge controller which can be wired in parallel to main charge controller. This arrangement potentially gives a combined power output 17280 KW.
Am I correct in my calculations and it worth adding the extra controller?
Thanks
@Vince
It is going to largely depend on what your battery voltage is and then orientation of panels (irradiance etc). But yes on paper you would have less clipping at peak power if you add another MPPT.
Some basic calculations though…
36 x 545 is 19620w
At 48v that is 408A. So in the end actually 2 x 450/200 means zero clipping of power. (3 strings on each.)
At 55v it is still 356A
Many thanks for your reply.
I have 12 x pylontech US5000 so at peak irradiance i think i can achieve over 17KW rather than the limit of 11KW with one controller.
Thanks again Vince
