Generators & Frustration

Hi,
Looking for some guidance or help with my generator setup. Currently the Quattros are not detecting the power.

I have tried 3 different generators and tried all of the settings recommended in the Multiplus Generator FAQ.

My system:
2x Quattro 5000 in split phase powering my house. US spec, 120v split at 60hz.
Generator is a predator 5000. Brand new and good to go.

Generator is only 120v 30A. So it is wired to my primary L1 Quattro.

Wiring is black and white and green directly from the generator to the L1 Quattro.

The generator signal seems to be acknowledged in the Monitor but it isn’t doing anything with the power, namely charging my batteries (2xEG4 14.3kwh) or powering the house.

Here’s my frustration. I have tried 3 different generators now. It should not be this impossible to hook a generator up to a Victron Quattro. These are supposed to be quality. I have used cheap renogy and generic auto parts store inverters just fine with generators. Why does Victron suck so bad? Or is this an easy fix?

Btw, I am reading 125v at the Quattros AC input from the generator.

You have a split-phase configuration.
It expects a split-phase AC input.

You only have a 120V generator, you need a split-phase 120/240V generator connected to both L1 and L2.

However, you may be able to uncheck the “Switch as Group” option in VEconfigure so L1 is powered by the generator and L2 is powered by battery/inverter, if you think that’s a good idea.

Also lower your ac input current limit you can’t pull 32a from a 30A source. (And it will try).

Aim for 80% or probably less depending on where you are above sea level.
