DESS does not charge the batteries to 100% if there is no sun

Past month I have noticed that DESS does not even try to charge the batteries to 100%. It hapens in case there is not enough sun available. It just keeps the battery level at minimal SOC +5%. Simultaneously DESS ignores the electricity costs and use grid directly to consumtion.

Although it plans properly for the next day, DESS always changes its plan for today ignoring the electricity costs:

Do you have an idea how to correct this behaviour?

DESS does almost never charge to 100%, except if balancing is scheduled.

It calculates the amount of energy needed from grid and based on grid prices, calculates if it’s worth it to add a battery roundtrip.

What are your configured battery cycle costs?
These need to be compensated as well.

The difference between 5 and 15 cents is 10 ct.
Now, DESS also takes into account that you have conversion losses, when storing energy to the battery.

Thus, to use 1 kWh from the battery, the system would need to charge ~ 1.2 kWh from grid.

That kinda raises your purchase price to 6 cent (5×1.2) with the default SystemEfficiency-Settings.

To me, it seems like Dess is concluding:

  • Charging for 5 cent is ok to cover the 20 ct. Hours.
  • in the 15ct hours, using battery would be more expensive, so we are using grid directly.

If your battery costs are higher than 9 ct per kWh, that may be right, mathematically.
