Blue Smart Chargers IP22 pulsing voltage and current

Hi @aphil138

As this is still a beta version it is best to wait for the official release (coming soon!) if you are unfamiliar firmware updates on Victron products.

Once the official release is available you will be able to update the firmware in VictronConnect.

Hello,

I’m also experiencing the same issues with my IP22 12/30/3 with serial HQ2532.

Looking forward for the fix :ok_hand:

Hi @guystewart
I just bought your charger and I ran into a problem.
I also encountered unstable operation of the 12/30 (1) series HQ2539347XG device
After installing the latest test firmware(3.67 beta 2), the situation is still not stable enough. I conducted tests with a nearly fully charged 100 Ah gel battery.
In power supply mode, peaks reach 6-8 amps.
I also connected a 1.4 amp incandescent light bulb to the device in power supply mode and it worked stably, the voltage and current did not fluctuate

My main question If I contact a service center, can I expect to receive a replacement device from a different series?

PS. I can also, upon your request, provide CSV files recording the device’s operation while the battery is charging (Mode, Charger Error, Current Voltage).

Take it back to the store where you bought it, they won’t fix it with software, they’re playing for time… They can’t fix poor quality relays (hardware) with software… They’ve been producing poor quality devices all year and now they’re trying to push it out into the world… Look for chargers from 2024 in stores.

@guystewart today I installed the firmware upgrade 3.67 but still have the same issue. When the charger goes from absorption into float the Amps go up and down, no stable values. What is your advice on this?

I have been following this topic with much interest, as I have an IP22 HQ2521 12v/30a charger. Today, I tested it on a Li-ion 100ah battery, only to discover that, indeed, the wildly fluctuating amperage and voltage is taking place on my charger. While testing, I opened the settings on my Victron Connect app, only to discover that the Li-ion setting has the float setting “disabled.” This seems out of place, as the product is advertised as having all the different charging settings.

Here is my question; is anyone else seeing this disable float setting, and could this have anything to do with the charger not moving on from absorb?

I am in agreement with SETH89, that this is something that should be addressed beyond a firmware approach. I believe Victron should make this right.

Tim

Hi @guystewart

While testing my IP22 (HQ2521), I entered the advanced settings and noticed that the Li-ion settings had the “float” settings disabled. Could this be why the charger is not going into float when the “absorb” setting nears 1 amp? I have not yet looked into whether the float settings are disabled in other presets, and I see that many other users are having problems with different batteries. What would lead Victron to disable float levels for Li-ion batteries?

No, what you are noticing is not relevant to the original issue. Float charge on lithium batteries is not needed, anyway. Of course, depends on who you ask, but it’s really not needed.

Victron has now released v3.67 - the announcement is here - BlueSmart IP22 firmware v3.67 - Improved charging behaviour for units between HQ2511 and HQ2552 - Victron Professional

Thanks all who contributed to the beta testing.

Please read that news item for more details, including what to do if this firmware solution isn’t satisfactory for you.

Work continues with focus on improving similar behaviour on the 3 output models, and investigating further some of the reports on the IP67 models.

Thank you for your guidance through this issue. I have downloaded v.3.67, and received confirmation that it is in Victron Connect, but when I open Product Info, and press Manual Install, the next screen is totally blank.
Any advice will be appreciated!
