It would be great to get a 200A Autotransformer, any chance there is something in the works to increase the AT size?
I’m not aware of anything in the pipeline. Personally, I would rather see Victron offer split-phase inverters for North America. The AT is a band-aid for this lack of product offering.
For our purposes the AT is pretty great. It allows us to run 240V through cables 700 feet away to our cabin and then split it at the cabin and run our normal 120V appliances. Without that architecture we wouldn’t be able to cover that distance. But we’re limited to 100A…
You don’t need an autotransformer. I mean, you can use an AT up to a certain power level, but you could also use simple power transformers. They won’t be less expensive, but you have more options. For example, you could step up the voltage at the source side to hundreds of volts, say 500V, and then step it back down again on the load side. If the secondary windings are center-tapped, then you can split the output into two 120V legs with a neutral.
The Victron 100A AT can only handle 28A on its neutral so be sure to mind that limit.
