1x MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-48 plus 3x Pylontech US2000C

Hi - at present I have installed the following system:
1x MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-48 plus
2x Pylontech US2000C
4x APSystems solar converter (each 800W)
The 4 APSystems convertes are feeding direct the loads. All additional power will be stored via Multi into the Pylontech batteries (ESS-System). All is installed on phase 1 and I’m located in Germany.

Is it possible to install an additional Pylontech US2000C in line with the two existing Pylontech US2000C? I noticed somewhere that the max is 4 - so 3 should be OK - or?

In addition I would like to install two additional pannels (something between 400W and 500W each) to feed direct the batteries. Any surgestion here?

So at the end about 3.200W will feed mainly the loads direct and store additional power into the 3 Pylontech US2000C - plus about 800 to 1.000W who will direct feed the batteries.

Max is 16 batteries in one group, so no problem with installing another one besides the 2 you have.
Just check the Pylontech manual for that and don’t forget to also add the communication cable between the new battery and the “old” pack.

Put one of the new batterys as master then connect the can first to the second new one and then the old ones

Extra pv on dc side is possible with mppts from victron, they can be connected to the ve direct interface on the cerbo or the multiplus gx

You should have in additional:

  • GX device (Cerbo, RPi, …)
  • Energy Meter to achive zero as you MP2 is net parallel
  • Fuses

With Pylontech you can mix US5000, 3000 and 2000. Rules are describe in manual.

You cannot mix with batteries from other brands as Pylontech are 15s, whereas most others are 16s. Passionately the BMS must be compatible or merged.

As net meter either use VM-3p75ct or EM-540.
To measure the grid tie inverter, you can use an ET-340 or any open source solution like Shelly or direct integration.

With my Hoymiles I use OpenDTU und dbus-mqtt.

In deed, I’m using a Cerbo as well and an independent smartmeter.
To balance the batteries load or proving more energy to the loads, I’m using the build in meter from the Multi.

At present the focus is just to extend the batteries with an additional US2000C und to connect some information about a Victron MPPT to feed the batteries direct.

Let’s see if maybe if someone is selling something special on the back Friday :wink:

I am about to install aa similar PV system to the OP, 16x 460Wp with 8 APSystems DS3, but I would like to connect this directly to 3xMultiPlus ESS system with Pylontech battery. Would this be possible? Do the DS3 units ‘talk’ sunspace and how would they do that? via the Zigbee module or is there an additional piece of equipment needed to connect the PV system to the ESS?

You will need a pv meter, ds3 doesnt talk to cerbo directly, if they are on ac out you will also need to setup the ess assistants again

@basa71 : If you are using all 16 panels (each 460W) on one phase, the multi could get in trouble. There is a 1:1 rule (maybe I’m calling it not correctly) but if the multi is able to handel 5000W, you should not push him with more. Not sure it you are using the DS3 or DS3M (DS3M each 799W // 8 times would mean 6.392W).
The multi2 comes with an internal meter that can balance and operate and balance as a normal meter. For me it works (see setup below).


As you know, in summer the sun will provide more power as in the dark winter times. I’m using some hardware switches to manage summer and winter time (see picture below)

The current default is:

  • 2x DS3M on phase 1 (plus multi 2 and batteries)
  • 1x DS3M on phase 2
  • 1x DS3M on phase 3
    At present (winter time) I’m switching all DS3M to phase 1 to get full power on the permanent loads and on the batteries. FYI; There are also switches available who will switch over “automatically” - depending on the setup.
