Need help after 24 V battery bank failure. How to protect from shortcut of one cell in one battery?

If you want a 24 volt system then build or buy 24 volt batteries, especially when using BMS-based batteries. BMS-based batteries put in series will go out of balance. A battery balancer will help, but that just complicates the system.

Interesting. Can OPzV be installed in horizontal position? I do not have vertical space

Yes, they can

One more question, do you use any kind of balancer with OPzV cells?

No, I don’t have one. Every year I measure the voltage of the individual cells in the resting state and after 5 years the differences are less than 15mV. But currently I’m looking for a suitable smart BMS. There are some models that already work from 1.5V and balancing with up to 14A!
There’s a guy on YouTube called Andy, from Australia (Off-Grid Garage). He has extensively tested many models from China.

Thank you, interesting to know. I wish I could do OPzV, but I am stack with factory battery space. Even worse, I have 2 battery compartments in each hull, and both are small. OPzV cells need to be together

Please, I need opinions about fuses MRCB or MRBF+ switches?

Interesting, that in Victron’s great book “Wiring Unlimited” I found 24V battery bank connection diagram exactly as I had before, without any protection against single battery short circuit.

Can it be, that I am overreacting and no protection is needed?

How do you like this solution? The fuses are half as valuable and will blow more quickly. A catamaran is predestined for a redundant solution. There are actually 2 battery banks that can be switched individually or together. If there are problems or maintenance work, simply switch one off…

Yes, I am thinking about similar solution. Thank you

I want to be able to quickly disconnect any of four pairs. Thinking about 4 MRCBs, but many advise me not use them.

And 8 voltmeters to monitor all individual batteries :slightly_smiling_face:
