also quite off; i am getting advertised 3.71 instead… while i am already on 3.80-14
That is 3.73. The current beta.
3.80 is on pause while 3.73 is released, so it is “newer”
Normal and discussed in the changelog.
This confusion seems to persist, and the reason is because it’s quite counterintuitive. A system shouldn’t offer you to upgrade to a lower version.
There really should be either a change to that wholesale, a switch to prevent “upgrading down”, or a way to select which beta chain you want to be on (similar to how iOS does it when they’re testing multiple beta at once).
Sort of. While numerically lower it is built with 3.80 DNA. We do try be clear about this in the change log but unfortunately too many don’t make any effort to read it, and in this case, didn’t even read the actual version on the UI correctly.
The argument against is that few would then run the “sub-betas” which is unhelpful to testing as well.
