Looking for some ideas on how to integrate a fan into a Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC charger that comes on only when the charger is charging.
I’ve mounted the charger in a tight space (less than the stipulated 4-inches of space around the perimeter of the device, and to keep it cool, I’ve mounted a 90 cm computer case fan nearby and pointed the airflow at the charger.
Unfortunately, I currently have to manually turn the fan on and off and more than once, I have forgotten. Though there has not seemed to be a problem when I forgot, it still managed to charge at 48 to 50A for the hour or more that I was driving. I just don’t want to stress it out by having it run for long periods at a higher temperature when all it would take is some airflow around it to keep it cool.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can have a fan turn on automatically when the charger is charging?
One thought is to have a device with some kind of thermometer (thermistor?) stuck on the back of the Orion such that it will turn on a fan if the Orion gets beyond a certain temperature. But that sort of electronic wizardry is beyond my capabilities at this time.
