VRM update locks out users with older browsers or without a Facebook ID or Google ID

The VRM update locks out users with older browsers, users without a Facebook ID or Google ID, and users without a smartphone.

I have been running a MultiPlus-II with batteries and MPPT controllers connected to a Cerbo GX, with ESS under its own management and in parallel with VRM, for three years without any problems. Two weeks ago, I could still use VRM with Firefox 98 ESR and a password to check and control the software settings. Now I receive a “deprecated” message and have to use a new browser and Facebook or Google authentication.

Solar PV systems in stationary operation must be able to function for many years as a closed environment, without Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, using a device that has no connection to external internet addresses. All the devices were purchased at the same time, and some of them can no longer be upgraded at all. Solar PV should work for at least 10 years; otherwise, it isn’t economically viable. I specifically bought Victron so that I wouldn’t have to use manufacturers from China that practise “planned obsolescence”.

What solution is there for being able to use VRM in a Linux browser again?

Thanks for any ideas

Good evening,

This might help you from the old forum community,

VictronConnect on Ubuntu 18.04.4 unable to access VRM systems - VictronEnergy .

There is written also something what you can do with Linux.

One thing you have to understand is that most microelectronics manufacturers are not so fond anymore to support Linux, as it costs a fortune to keep it supported from their side, my old windows 98 and 7 still works just fine for example.

Regards, Jeroen.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, the current AppImage for Linux is not compatible with my system. For testing purposes, I used my AppImage VictronConnect-x86_64-v5.76AppImage, and that works. However, the app uses the internet browser to access VRM, with the link

If you enter this link directly in the FF115 or FF128 browser, the login works. However, after entering the credentials, a blank login form with “user@example.com” briefly appears again, followed by a new login request for Victron OneID. In Firefox FF98, logging in with a password is rejected. In FF115, I am redirected to OneID and prompted for a password. At least this allows me to work with VRM. I don’t understand the background to this.

Best regards

Not sure what your problem is, I’m using Debian Trixie, and Firefox ESR with no issues. Sometimes App images do cause problems.

Victron logins or login procedures have been changed; take a look at the information about it.
