VRM Data "last12 months" incorrect

Hello,
I noticed that the amount of solar Energy shown in the view “last12 months” always increases during the course of a month, more then it normally should.
Looking at the dates it should display the energy from September 7th 2023 till September 7th 2024. But the sum shown is counted beginning from September 1st 2023.

When I change the “from” date/ time to just an hour earlier or later, it shows the correct sum from the last 365 days.
Is this a bug or a feature, that “last 12 months” does not count the last 365 days but at the end of a month up to 395 days?

That’s a Question of definition.

In Data Retention, your expectation is something that would be call “last 365 days”^1.

“Last 12 Months” means, a minimum of 12 months is ensured, so based on the “size of units” it will sum up to 13 months, before 1 month is dropped to have 12 months again.

Becomes easier to understand, when you look at something like “last 10 years of data” - Your expectation would definitly be a full data set of 2014, not starting at 9/2014.

(Or last 7 days including the full first day)

^1 to be 100% precise, last 365 days would also range between 365 and 366 days, just would go unnoticed - your expectation to have it down to the minute would therefore be “last {YouDoTheMaths) minutes”

Last 12 months seems to include the current month, so it will increment.
I think the expectation is that it is the last completed 12 months so should exclude the present month.

Completely understand this point of view and it’s ok for me.
But then there still is one bug. When you select “last 12 months” the dates are automatically set to 7.9.23 - 7.9.24. but the values shown are related to 1.9.23 - 7.9.24.
That’s confusing and shouldn’t be likes this.

Let me check, I may have misunderstood the answer given.

Ok. My bad.
This option used to be called “last year” which confused some users, so it was renamed to last 12 months. As you observe, it is the last rolling 365 days.

I think we misunderstood again.
In “last 12 months” the dates displayed show the last 365, as shown in the screenshot.

But the value of kWh corresponds to 1.9.23 till 9.9.23, which means up to 395 days.

The problem is, that the dates don’t match the calculated value.

When I use the custom date fields and change the from time just by 15 minutes I instantly lose the harvest of 9 days, because then it really shows only the last 365 days.

I’m trying again to show it using screenshots:

Here you see that I selected 12 months and that the date fields are automatically set to 9.9.23-9.9.24:

Here you see, the value that is shown for solar: 7097 kWh

And here the value when I change the “from” time in the custom date field just by 5 minutes. Solar decreases suddenly to 6889 kWh. This difference is exactly the harvest from 1.9.23 till 9.9.23.

What’s really confusing is when you delve to the pie charts for (say) Consumption, they say “Last 365 days”. And the totals match those shown in System Overview.
Then on top of that the individual values in the pie charts don’t always add up correctly… far more than rounding errors.

Unfortunately I have the feeling that the problem is still not understood by Victron and also not by @nickdb
It would be great if others would comment or could show examples of the same problem. I described it now in several posts in detail and don’t know what to add…

I think your example screenshos pretty much outlined the issue very well.

  • klick last 12 months
  • filter is set 9.9 - 9.9
  • data is 1.9 - 9.9

So filter != data, no matter how you consider the “preset” 12 months to be correctly.

Maybe @Barbara could look at, at least she’s very active around vrm-topics.
