VRM app for Apple Watches

We are preparing to release the VRM app for IOS, that includes the app for Apple watches.
If you want to beta-test it, please use the link below to install the test-flight app:

Your feedback is extremely valuable to us!

Hi @Lpopescu, reading about the Apple Watch VRM app, I was wondering if Victron also looks at the future possibility to make the VRM compatible with CarPlay. This question was asked before sometimes, and for RV drivers/automotive Victron installations, this can be helpfull.

Hi @Theo
Yes, the question was asked several times. A far as I know, the number of apps that can be on car play and android auto is very limited by both apple and google because of safety regulations.
VRM is not an app that should be used while driving.
We can check if there is something we can do to display it while vehicle is stopped.
But no promises.

Would be cool for people with motorhomes and such to have it integrated into there though.

Yes, I know, let’s see what we can do, but after finishing the wearable project.

Just a thought (I don’t know the CarPlay / Auto api well enough) - would this be an opportunity to get the vehicles SOC and store in VRM to identify how much energy may be needed to charge the vehicle later? Realise this may want a different thread but whilst it was mentioned, thought I would ask.

Back to the wearables - looks great! Are there plans for complications eg SOC / solar yield etc?

You’re absolutely right that the VRM app on CarPlay should have limited controls, due to safety regulations. It’s therefore that most CarPlay apps have those limitations also.
I think that for most people only ‘monitoring’ their system via CarPlay, will be enough when driving.

Just to have said this, without needing an answer, otherwise this “Apple Watch” topic might end in getting a “CarPlay” topic.

can you explain this - “Are there plans for complications eg SOC / solar yield etc?”

Sorry! :slightly_smiling_face:
So I love the data presented so far.

I wondered if you will be allowing some of the information to be presented as dial on the clock faces.

I’m glad you like it!
Probably yes, but let’s leave it for later

No worries! But great work!

2 posts were split to a new topic: VRM beta info text not showing correctly

I like it!
No problems so far.
It would also be nice to have a solar yield diagram.
And of course the small complications for the dials that have already been mentioned.

I don’t know about apple car play, but I have made apps for Android Auto.

There is very little room for customization, as these apps are intendet to be intuitively used (while driving) you can basically select between 5 different templates, and then only use the visuals this template is providing.

Imho very much effort for very little gain - unless your app is a navigation and/or media app which could be happy with the provided templates.

Hi. Great to hear that there will be support for the Apple Watch! Thank you very much for that.
It is not a real-time update of the values, am I right? At what interval are the values updated?
I also have a value displayed for the AC load in my DC system. That seems to be wrong. The DC load, on the other hand, is not displayed at all.
Thanks!

It almost looks like the data refreshes every 60 seconds.

I’m also seeing the same thing where DC and AC loads are being combined together under the “AC loads” section.

Apple restricts how widgets refresh.

We are working to make it faster, it’s not going to stay that slow.
But yes, now it is max 60sec. Next version should be lower than 10sec

The initial version is designed for systems with AC. But if there are enough requests, we might add DC loads.

Sounds good. You have my vote… and certainly that of all RV owners
