Hello everyone,
I’m Lukas, a mechatronics technician from Styria, and I design and build Victron systems. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a project of my own that I’d like to introduce here – the ViewDot 700.
The idea is simple: see the whole system at a glance, right on the table, without having to open your phone or VRM every time. To achieve this, I wrote custom firmware for a 7-inch touchscreen that displays the battery, solar, grid and consumption side by side.
Here’s how it works:
- The panel connects to the Wi-Fi network and reads the values via MQTT from the GX device on the local network. No cloud required.
- Pages: Overview, Battery, Solar, Consumption, Tanks, History, Devices and Settings. You can choose which ones appear and in what order, either on the device or in the browser.
- Firmware updates are delivered over Wi-Fi.
The same is also available in a browser, with history covering hours, days and weeks:
Hardware: Waveshare ESP32-P4-WIFI6-Touch-LCD-7B (SKU 32510), “Standard Ver.” variant – not the camera version. The firmware is flashed in the browser via USB-C (Chrome or Edge), with no soldering required.
On the GX: enable MQTT under Settings → Integrations. From Venus OS 3.50 onwards, the security profile for the local network must be set to “Unsecured”.
For full disclosure: this is a commercial product, and I sell the firmware licence. Beta testers receive the licence free of charge. Everyone buys the board themselves; the licence remains valid after the beta.
What I’d like in return is some straightforward, honest feedback via WhatsApp – what’s working well, what isn’t and what’s missing.
If you’d like to take part, just reply here in the thread, ideally with a sentence about your own system (which GX device you have and what’s connected to it). I’ll then contact you by private message.
I’m happy to answer technical questions here in the thread.
Thanks and best wishes,
Lukas
