Dear all, one of our installations of a Victron EV charger was disapproved by a Belgian approval organism to allow the EV charger to be connected to the mains. We are seeking some kind of proof that these EV chargers are safe. Otherwise they may not be used in Belgium.
Have you looked here?
Hi @Ton,
The EVCS expert is @Lpopescu - I know he has been working on improving certification and might be able to provide some more information about installing in that specific market.
On the link from Nick, you can find the declaration of conformity and IEC-61851-1. That should be enough. Are they asking for something more?
Thank you ! the declaration (I found) is a big help. One more question though: the approval organism (a man testing the devices) says he needs some kind of proof (an official document by Victron) that the EV charger is equipped with an " internal 6 mA DC leak detection" (in Dutch:
Keurder heeft een officieel document van Victron nodig waarin staat dat laadpaal beschikt over een “interne 6mA DC lekdetectie”)
Is there any such document or text by Victron to proof that ? thanks for all efforts to help us.
That can be found in the manual:
https://www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/EV_Charging_Station_NS/en/installation.html
- An external RCD is required.
- We recommend using an RCD type B protected supply (check local legislation) . Make sure that the RCD corresponds to the maximum power used, i.e. use a 40A RCD type B if you charge mostly with 22kW or correspondingly smaller if you charge with less power
Thanks Matthias for your advice and referring to the manual, however the question was not which RCD would be necessary but if the charger is equipped with an "internal 6 mA DC leak detection switch, so an on board circuit preventing operation of the EV Charger when an internal circuit detects a current flow (I guess to earth) of x mA (here 6 mA was mentioned).
Anyone else knowledge of such circuit or local requirement for Belgium ?
Following, because I placed mine yesterday on the wall. Also in Belgium.
I’m specially interested in knowing if a dedicated RCD is needed or a shared one is enough.
I would always put one suitable for the maximum capacity of the charger. If you buy other car, then you could need to change the RCD also.
What is the downfall of this?
