Venus OS 3.51 Stuck on Login Screen

Hello Everybody,

I need your help please. I am running Venus OS 3.51 on an RPI. When trying to login via web interface then I am getting stuck on the login screen.
After entering the correct password the Victron Symbol on the upper right flashes once then nothing happens and the login screen is still shown.

I haven’t changed anything on my system since months and I haven’t used the GUI for nearly 3 months as I monitor the data via the victron cloud. Yesterday I wanted to change the battery settings but I was not able to access the gui. I have restarted the RPI but with no effect.

I am able to access the system via SSH.

Can anyone please help what the possible issue could be ? And how to resolve it.

Thanks a lot

Hi, best thing to do I can think of is to reset the password using an usb stick with special file on it ( see cerbo gx manual ).

Sorry haven’t found the chapter where this is described. However is there maybe a possibliity to check the logs ? Where could I see what is going wrong ?

I fixed it by upgrading to version 3.66.

I removed the SD Card and made an image backup then I connected the RPI to a monitor, a keyboard and changed the headless file to .off

mv /etc/venus/headless /etc/venus/headless.off

After reboot I was able to get into the Venus Menu. Then I navigated to the upgrade section Settings→Firmware→ Online Updates .

I checked for updates and installed the update v3.66 . It took a couple of minutes and when the system did resart I was able to access the RPI via Webinterface again.
Seems that when updating, the root passwort is reset, so do not forget to type in a new one to be able to access your rpi via ssh.

Good to hear that you fixed it!

And I check the reset files & procedures that the manual offers , and indeed we don’t have one that only resets passwords & network access.

Only one that resets everything back to factory defaults.

Hi Matthijs,

well the password was not the issue as you get an “Invalid Password” if you enter the wrong password but I didn’t get this answer.
Apart from that exactly the same password was accepted after the update.
So something else must have been wrong.
Do you have any idea on what to check and in which logfiles to identify the problem just in case it happens again ?

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

No not sure. For logs, see /data/logs/*

And see here for how to make the timestamps readable (pipe through tai64nlocal):
