VE.Can to CAN-bus BMS without GX device

Hey,

I’m going to connect Victron Quattro II to Dyness B51100.
I’m going to be using VE.Bus Smart dongle to monitor and manage the system.

I’d definitely prefer not buying any GX device like Cerbo GX.

Can I use an VE.Can to CAN-bus BMS cable (one of them) to connect the battery directly to Quattro II?

No. Inverters do not speak CAN. They are vebus only. You need a GX.
This is pretty clearly documented in the manuals for the systems.

Have you got a Raspberry Pi? Then you can use it as an GX device without buying one. You only need interfaces.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I got Raspberry Pi.

I have seen some home made GX device built with RPI but it’s for sale, not DIY with instruction.

So I need CAN interface module and VE.Bus interface module? Do you know what exactly VE.Bus is? I have a feeling that it’s basically a fancy proprietary name for some well-known interface. Is it?

I assume VenusOS might have some flexibility but do I need some specific interfaces hardware?

VE.Bus is basically RS485 but proprietary protocols.

With a rPi you need a Can-hat and a MK3 interface.
With an original GX device it’s plug and play, you don’t need any interfaces.
