V3.60 Relay function missing on Color GX menu both old GUI and new GUI

HI i have found that after updating to V3.60 the relay functionality of the color GX and MP2GX have disappeared - i have rolled back to V3.54 and they are there - all 3 of my devices it affected - i use the relay to restart a internet router when the internet goes down by using the reboot function of the GX on loss of connection which in turns resets the relay (pic showing V3.54 v V3.60) and the new GUI is the same - Also manual generator control gone

Hey @NigelDESelectrical , welcome to Community and thanks for making the topic here.

Real strange, this is a screenshot of the menu of one of our CCGX-es, showing the relay entry as expected:

Can you post the vrm portal url of a system, while updated to v3.60 and missing that entry? Then I’ll ask someone to login and check.

Hi Matthijs the VRM is VRM Portal - Victron Energy, this is running 3.60 (this is a MP2GX - but the others are Color GXs which showed exactly the same when it updated to 3.60 )
my others I’ve rolled back to 3.55 as I needed to get the relay to close
i just did an online check to see the new update and it appears the update is now not available
this GX is running 3.55

Hi @NigelDESelectrical , The EasySolar-II and the Multiplus-II-GX does not have built-in relays, so at least for that system this is perfectly normal. For the Color Control it would not be normal. Would you mind if I look at those, obviously without rebooting (unless I obtain your permission)?

Hi Izak
The gx I had to roll back is on
..
Its currently on v3.55 and it appears that the update back to V3.6 is no longer available ..but if I lose that relay function I lose the internet with it

It is definitely still available for update. But you should also be able to boot back into 3.60 from the backup firmware menu.

When it is convenient for you, could you check if perhaps the relay option shows up after a few minutes? In testing we found that when booting, a CCGX takes up to two minutes (after the menu first shows up) before everything settles and becomes available.

In testing we found that even in Venus 3.55, it wasn’t faster. But maybe it is a matter of looking a bit closer this time around?

Alternatively, since we cannot seem to reproduce this in any of our CCGXs in the test fleet, I would appreciate it if you can reproduce the issue and give me a chance to take a look.

Hi Izak
I rebooted into 3.6 and made a video of the menu (file too big to upload ) …relay and generator start stop function was no longer present and my dcdc remote was off (relay open) and didnt restart.. ..as you can see in the pic the items are missing but when rebooted in 3.55.they returned

Hi @NigelDESelectrical , to be clear, by the above I meant it would be great if it could remain in Venus 3.60 for a period of time so that I might take a look. I need to see where it goes wrong. As mentioned earlier, we can unfortunately not reproduce the problem here. It seems to be something specific to your setup. I’m available for two more hours today to look at this.

Ill have put in a loop wire into my dcdc on for my internet to be on for you to see (i use the relay to automatically restart when im not home )..you can go in now and see… its running 3.6

Ah after the 3rd reboot into 3.6 the items have now appeared ! …the update came in around 10am local time on wednesday the function wasnt present when i got home around 5pm which is when I rebooted back to 3.55 (so it was not present for some 7 hrs) and GX was constantly rebooting every 2 hrs as per my settings once vrm connection was lost

I havent tested the relay functionality..ill do that tomorrow

Something else you might check during testing, is if the ESS menu is populated, or if that is also missing.

During our own testing we found that it takes up to two minutes for the relay menu option to become available, but during that same time several other menu items are also unavailable. The ESS menu is one of them, it remains empty until the system is finished starting up.

I will wait to hear your results on Monday.

Hi @NigelDESelectrical , to summarise:

To summarise the results of our investigations. The model of GX that you’re using is a Color Control GX: we recommend to roll back to v3.55 and keep it at that. The new v3.60 is not suitable for a CCGX in some systems, unfortunately.

With regards to the relays on your GX: they work. The issue you’re seeing is that, when running v3.60, it takes a long time (several minutes) after boot before they become visible. And when in CPU overload perhaps / apparently even longer. As you reported it took several hours and then still not visible.

Have a good weekend and thanks again for posting here, this helps - also for some future improvements.

Matthijs

ps. more info on CCGX and v3.60 is here: Color Control GX automatic updates back to v3.55 (no longer v3.60)
