Switch between 48v and 51.2v battery

Hi,

I’m currently changing my 48V-battery-system towards a 51.2V-system.

Therefore, I have to write new Voltage-settings via VEConfig to my Multiplus.
My question is: How can this be done without damaging the battery.

I proceed as follows:

When changing from 48V to 51.2V

  1. (the 48V-battery is connected)
  2. leaving the old 48V-settings untouched
  3. disconnecting the 48V-battery
  4. connecting the 51.2V battery
  5. setting up the new 51.2-settings

When changng from 51.2V to 48V

  1. (the 51.2V battery is connected)
  2. setting up the new 48V-settings
  3. disconnecting the 51.2V-battery
  4. connecting the 48V-battery

I think this procedure is safe, so the 48V-battery cannot be damaged due to too high voltage. Do you agree?
But is this procedure necessary, or is there any “self-protection” in case 51.2V-settings are configured with a 48V-battery shortly still in place.

Regards

Alex

You can take the old battery out and put the new one in then change the settings. A 16cell 51.2V battery has a rest voltage around 52V. You can disable the charger and isolate any charging sources until you update the settings.

Just to be clear, you are going from a 15cell 48V battery to a 16cell 51.2V battery?

correct, I’m switching from 15 cells to 16 cells.
So you recommend the same procedure as I do.

Either way. Change the settings before you swap the battery, or change the battery swap the settings. As long as the charger is disabled, you will have no problems. You have to use Veconfig to disable the charger, so why are you in there? You can add the new settings for the 16-cell battery.
