Split washers in the Lynx distributor

Hi everyone, just curious, why are the split washers in the Lynx distributor made of copper?

Because copper is a great conductor and soft so it crushes and makes a good connection? That would be my guess. Do you have a problem with them being copper?

Thanks for the reply. No problem with copper. However, regarding conductivity, the normal washer that comes into contact with the fuse or terminal is made of stainless steel.

Not sure on that. Sounds like a question for a Victron rep. Stainless steel has much poorer conductivity than copper. I agree its kind of counter intuitive to use copper for the split wash and SS for the washer. Fortunately most of the necessary contact is the terminal or fuse on the bus bar. I would guess that the malleability of the copper is why they chose it for the split washer.

Thanks. Yes, I also believe the choice of copper is for a mechanical reason.
