My MPPT 100/50 charger never reaches 50 amps. It’s connected to 5 solar panels of 200 watts ea. in series connection; and two 12 V batteries 400 AH ea. connected in parallel. Batteries specifications are 80 Amps maximum charge input.
|200W Solar Panel
|Peak Power Pm (W) |200W|
|Open circuit voltage Voc (V) |23.4V|
|Max.power voltage Vmp (V) |19.8V|
|Max.power current Imp (A) |10.10A|
|Short circuit current Isc (A) |11.17A|
|Solar cells Efficciency |22.50%|

What is your array VOC? 5 200w panels in series seems awfully likely to be over the controller’s _hard limit_ of 100v input.

Solar panel specs: Max.power voltage Vmp (V) 19.8; so multiply by 5 (panels) does not get to 100 V. Actually, the MPPT has never got more than 98 V input. Still, MPPT has never delivered 40 Amps.
Ps.: Open circuit voltage Voc (V) = 23.4

I could agree with you. But why the mppt does not deliver the 50 amps? Settings?

Yes these 5 panels in series is probably problematic for your MPPT. Even 4 is too much is you ask me. If you can get another panel (6 total), I would make 2 strings of 3 panels.

The reason is that Voc with 4 panels in series is already 93.6V. Now lower the temperature and around +10 Celsius you’re hitting the max of 100V.

Then, to test, I will rearrange the 5 panels to a series-parallel system. That will take care for not over power the mppt input. Do you think it solve the issue, and will deliver 50 amps?

Yes but keep the strings equal. So 2 series of 2 panels. Don’t do one string of 3 and one of 2 panels. Or buy one extra and make 2 strings of 3 panels.

With 4 panels total and assuming max light on those panels should give you around 40-50A. Theoretically more, but panels rarely reach their max output wattage.

Also, though hopefully it wouldn’t need to be said, make sure your batteries aren’t already full. You could have all the solar in the world but if your batteries are full, there’s nowhere for it to go.

It is possible that the controller has already been damaged by the array as it is, but test it within its operational specifications first; you might have gotten lucky and not caused damage to it yet.

If I install a MPPT 150/60, can it be limited to 50 amps output on settings?

yes. you can set the maximum current that go to battery in the settings using “victron connect” app.
