SmartShunt: Battery Cycles

Hi,

I recognized that the cycle reading in my smartshunt is very low.

Cumulated discharge of my battery is 6012Ah and the battery capacity is set to 330Ah. So I expect something like 6012/330=18 cycles. But the smartshunt says just 7 cycles. Why?

The detail is in the manual from memory. Again ftom memory without checking, for a cycle the SOC must fall below a threshold which may be something like 65% and get charged back full. My old boat batteries were 4 years old when I changed them, but as they normally cycled between 80% and 100% they only claimed 50 or so cycles.

From the manual

5.5.2. History data

Charge

  • Total charge cycles: The number of charge cycles over the lifetime of the battery monitor. A charge cycle is counted every time the state of charge drops below 65% and then rises above 90%.

Thanks for explanation. So the smartshunt calculates cycles very different than battery BMS usually do. Yes, most of the times I do not discharge my battery below 65%. So smartshunt cycles are meaningless for me as they miss micro cycling.
