Smart Shunt should control Easy Solar GX

Installed is an EasySolar II GX, alongside an Orion TR 24/24 17 and a SmartShunt 300A. No BMS is connected.

The SmartShunt is connected to the EasySolar via VE.Bus. The EasySolar regulates the battery charging current using DVCC to a maximum of 27 A.

Nevertheless, the charging current rises above 27 A when the Orion comes into operation.

How can the EasySolar reduce the current when it has information from the shunt that the limit has been reached?

Hello joachim1, On my off grid solar system I let the Solar Charge controllers limits the currents. I have 9 SCC. All the SCC working well. The amps never went above the set point.

Das habe ich getan, bevor ich meinen Shunt eingebaut habe. Ich dachte, die Elektronik (VE-Bus) meines EasySolar GX sei intelligent genug, dies automatisch zu begrenzen.

I hope this is an Orion TR Smart, because without Smart it isn’t a charger, but merely a voltage source.
Only the Orion XS can participate in DVCC:

The charge current limit is a user-configurable setting that defines the maximum permitted total charge current in the system. It is available under: Settings → System setup → Charge control on the GX device.

In systems with DVCC enabled, charging sources are prioritised as follows:

  1. MPPT solar chargers (including MPPT RS)

  2. Orion XS DC-DC battery chargers

  3. Inverter/chargers (including Inverter RS and Multi RS)

Is the Orion connected to the GX via VE.Direct?

Further down in the small print:

This mechanism only works with Victron inverter/chargers, including Inverter RS, Multi RS, solar chargers including MPPT RS and Orion XS DC-DC battery chargers. Other chargers, such as those from Skylla-i, are not controlled, and their charge current is not taken into account either. The same applies to devices that are not connected to the GX device, such as an alternator. In other words: The total charge current from the inverter/chargers and all MPPT chargers is controlled, and nothing else. All other sources are subject to an additional charge, which is not accounted for. The same applies when installing a BMV or another battery monitor.

This is a non-isolated Orion-Tr Smart DC/DC charger, 24/24-17, that has been installed. It has no VE.Bus connection.
