S2 switch and microgrid mode

Hello,

I have a question regarding the Quattro configuration and microgrid operation. It is stated that the S2 switch must be set to the “ON” position to force the closure of the AC input relay (if I understand correctly). This is not an issue when the Quattro is operating in microgrid mode.

What about when Quattro in normal mode ? If the S2 switch remains ON while not in microgrid mode, is this a problem? Can the Quattro operate normally in standard mode with the S2 switch ON? Is there any risk?

Is it recommanded to switch S2 OFF when microgrid mode is no longer used?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Why would you be cycling modes? The system would be running custom firmware to enable microgrid, it is not intended to be moving between a microgrid and conventional modes.

Hello,

Typically I just wanted to test the microgrid function and after that return to the normal mode. But in the future, maybe I will need to turn ON and turn OFF dynamically. So for that, I can’t turn OFF S2 each time.

I didn’t find any official information about it, do you have one ?
They mentioned a future assistant who will be able to turn on and off dynamically the microgrid mode (if I understood correctly). So in this case, turn off S2 is not possible and necessary ?

Docs and training is online now, links here:

There is no dynamic switching. You would need to re-flash the unit with “normal” firmware and fully reconfigure it

This is seriously advanced stuff. Go to the pro site and do the training before attempting anything.
This is why we are not going to be encouraging topics about this on the DIY section as it is for trained professionals to use.

I already read all the documentation provided by Victron, also do a lot of tests, that’s why I now have this advanced question about the Quattro and the S2 switch.
I will wait to see if more official information come about it, for now I will be prudent.

Yes I understand it (and test it by the way), I hope it will be simpler in a future release, it is only the first release of this function so I’m confident about it

Yes I understand completely, It’s better to be careful with this kinds of advanced functions.

Thanks for your help,

Let us know how your tests go.
It’s early days and new functionality, no doubt it will continue to evolve, I have never known Victron to sit still. Exciting stuff with lots of possibilities.
