Remote On/Off Switch for Inverter w/ VE.Bus BMS NG

Hi all,

I am doing a new installation and have seen some conflicting information regarding the functionality of the inverter remote on/off switch capabilities with other victron components.

To sum it up, I want to install a hard wired remote switch to a 12/120 5000W quattro inverter. I will also have in the system a cerbo gx mk2 with gx touch display, 4 NG lithium batteries, and a VE.Bus BMS NG. I have seen some places say that yes the remote switch will still be able to control the inverter on and off while others say no the remote switch is not recommended and to actually wire it to the BMS H/L terminals.

Is someone able to give me a clear cut definitive answer for this? I would like to wire the system as properly intended by victron and not wire everything haphazardly just because it worked for one person in one instance.

Thank you!

Take a look at Wiring Unlimited; it’s the information brochure covering the basics.

There are several options, depending on the circuit.

Software-controlled via VE.Bus, or hardware-controlled via relays and a remote switching link/H-L signal.

That’s the great thing about it: you can always implement optimised solutions.

Are you wanting to use the H for remote on the appendix of the inverter manual?

Yes that’s exactly right. So after some further digging I found that with my current set up I can connect everything together via VE.Direct and VE.Bus. Then in order to use the remote switch as called out in H in the appendix I just have to cut pin 6 and pin 7 out of the VE.Bus cable going to the inverter. That will let me bypass whatever hardware/software hiccup happens with the older inverters when connected to the cerbo.
That fix works for us since we don’t have to purchase the DMC for remote switching. Or if you know of a better fix I am open to suggestions.

Thank you!

Ok so you don’t want a DMC and you don’t have a cerbo?

From what I can tell its as simple as breaking the remote on the bms.

I do have a cerbo, but correct that we do not need a DMC if possible.

I would wire the BMS remote to the relay on the cerbo (or a physical switch) and switch it off and on that way. But make sure you power the cerbo from the right side of the bms
