I’m exploring a 48VDC/5000/120VAC Quattro build for a home, critical load battery backup system. Still in the design phase. I’m running into building code issues in Montgomery County Maryland with my original design, which would have used LiTime 48V 100AH server rack batteries which have limited UL listing. I’m exploring whether code will allow me to use an ESS like SimpliPhi 6.6 which has UL-9540-DC-ESS certification with the Quattro (waiting to hear back from the permitting office) or if they will only permit systems in which the inverter/charger and batteries are certified as a system vs individually. With that said, I’m also trying to sort out if the current, UL-9540-DC-ESS-certified SimpliPHI 6.6 specifically use the same self-contained, no-CAN-required architecture as the older SimpliPhi 3.8, or did that generation move to the CAN-bus closed-loop design documented in the newer SimpliPhi 6.6 Connectivity Guide (the one produced by Briggs and Stratton but that excludes any discussion of Victron inverter/chargers)
Definitely a discussion to be had with your local electricians!
The Quattro won’t communicate with batteries in any case, communication would be through a GX device.
It may also be worth pointing out that the Quattro will not itself be UL Listed (no Victron inverter/chargers are); many are tested to UL standards, so you may see units that say UL458 and/or UL1741 etc, but they’re tested by 3rd-party labs rather than by UL Solutions itself, and as such are not “UL Listed” or “UL Approved”. Whether that will matter or not will depend entirely on your local governing electrical regulations and, too, your home insurance and etc.
Thanks Justin,
I did find an intertek ETL Listed to UL 1741 certificate for that Quattro model. At this point im just waiting to hear from the permits office regarding whether that’s good enough in our county AND if I need a battery/inverter/charger system that’s certified together vs whether mixxing these pieces is allowable per local code. This isn’t for a grid tied system… just backup power/UPS to critical loads when the grid fails, with ability to plug in my gas generator and a few solar panels as well down the line. Understand i need the cerbus gx too…Just didn’t list in my initial post.
