Solar installation improvement project

Solar panels on the roof: 3 kWp from 6 × 500 W panels, each with an Enphase IQ8HC microinverter.

A 3,000 kVA MultiPlus 2 connected to AC-in only, solely to recover the surplus from the panels and recharge the battery.

DIY battery with a 200 A JKBMS BMS, 16 kWh at 48 V, using cells arranged in 16S with a capacity of 314 Ah.

My project would be to install four new solar panels on the front of the house, providing between 2,000 W and 2,400 W through an MPPT, and connect it to the battery to enable additional DC/DC charging alongside the MultiPlus’s AC/DC charging. I think I’ve identified the most suitable MPPT: it would be the Victron 150/45.

I wanted to know whether anyone had already done this and what advice they might have.

Many thanks in advance for your time and feedback.

Hello, yes, my AC-in setup for the microinverters and MPPT. You need to be really careful with the MPPT (two in series and two in parallel here), the panels and the cables, otherwise it really doesn’t produce much. The panels on the façade at 90° produce very little when there’s no sun (I have some), and on really cloudy days they capture three times less.

I also have AC- and DC-coupled systems in my setup. They work wonderfully and are easy to configure.

The façade-mounted systems naturally perform best in winter, and they produce quite a lot then too.
