Hi,
It has been some changes about the Remote Console in VenusOS from 3.3x to 3.4x.
In which part of the forum I can ask questions about firmware bugs or observations?
Nothing is present about this change in the releases notes.
VNC is no longer listening on port 81.
A dedicated Section for Bug-Reports with any Victron Product / Service would be nice.
Would be though to moderate, as “everything is a bug” in the eye of the user, at first
But without such a topic, such observations will end up everywhere, having them grouped would reduce the load on other categories and maybe makes it easier to see something already beeing reported and just use a “I have the same issue”-vote to emphasise urgency of some unexpected behaviour.
If you are accessing it in unconventional ways, that would still be mods. If it is general feature requests or comments for typical, out of the box use, then leave it in Q&A, unless it is mobile/marine/diy, then it goes there.
We don’t have dedicated sections, not sure if that will change, specifically because 99% of issues are not bugs, rather a difference between expectation and actuality, or just not following release notes etc.
Also, because an issue presents with the same symptom, it doesn’t mean it has the same cause, so it can sometimes get a bit murky trying to identify an actual issue, the challenges of doing that remotely over the internet, notwithstanding.
For the most part, issues/shortcomings are generally found and added to the todo list via beta testing.
When a bug escapes it does tend to get noticed on the community, and then escalated via staff or the moderation team, so it doesn’t really matter where it goes, more that it is documented properly and clearly.
Have spotted 2 or 3 (reproduceable) bugs, but without experiencing any issues due to that just feels kinda wrong to create a public community forum topic for it.
Feels like “finger pointing”, which wouldn’t be my intention behind sharing it.
Having a bug-report section would kinda legitimate the creation of a topic with no other purpose than bringing it to victrons attention.
Then pop them into the beta section, if they aren’t known, it will be noticed.
The value of a dedicated section isn’t lost, it just can be problematic in some senses. @guystewart thoughts?
The very first place to ask questions or report bugs/issues should always be the seller/distributor from whom you bought the device.
This is still not an official support channel.
