Orion XS 50 connecting to battery while in Power supply mode

I’m thinking of putting a 100Ah lithium battery in my truck and connecting it to an inverter. Normally, I’d use it to run a small refrigerator, and occasionally to heat up food. However, if the battery’s normal continuous output is 50A, that limits the burner to about 500W, which is a bit too low.

My alternator can output 200A, if Orion XS 50 is connect to the car battery (so it connected to alternator). Orion is also connected to the lithium battery, Orion is in charger mode. inverter is connected to the battery (and hence the Orion output). This is a simple setup.

Before I go cooking, I want to switch Orion from charger mode to power supply mode, I expect the battery to be able to provide 50A and Orion to be able to provide 50A, so I will have ~1000w.

The question is: when the charger is in power supply mode, it can potentially delivery large current into the battery (this is possible if the inverter does not have any load), will this be an issue? this is my battery.

I know I can remove the battery, or adjust the output in the Orion, but such operations can be troublesome and I can forget one of the step one day.

Set the output voltage of the Orion to something like 13.3V in power supply mode so it only provides power when the battery voltage is low and it can not charge the battery to full. In power supply mode it still regulates the voltage by varying the current, it does not just force 50A out so it will not over charge your battery.

However, even if the Orion is left in normal charger mode with float at 13.5V, if the inverter takes more power the Orion should still provide 50A so I do not know what you are worrying about the need for swapping mode. Just run your engine when you want more power with the normal settings.

I was worrying about that Orion in charger mode will cycle in difference phases and hence won’t output a steady 50A (that’s why the power supply mode exists I think)
