I think I’d prefer to see who made the post.

On desktop it shows avatars of all contributors, with the OP the first one and labelled, on mouseover, as the original poster and the last one being the most recent, also labelled on mouseover.
Mobile does only seem to show the last contributor.
There is a theme plugin that changes this to the original poster by default on mobile view.
Considering mobile views are limited, I personally don’t mind the most recent contributor being shown.
I think I agree with @mpvader here. If it’s not going to show both OP and last poster then the OP’s avatar seems to make the most sense.

I have made the change so that now the OP avatar is always shown on the left, and if someone replies it is shown on the right (very small)
