I understand why the number of thumbnails is automatically limited. What do I do if I have very many thumbnails? The old site had no such limit. I don’t know if that was a problem.
In my case, I have more than 10 thumbnails. I don’t need any help. It’s just have a writeup that might help others. It wouldn’t be very helpful without thumbnails.

You mean attachment limits?
By default for new(er) users it defaults to 4 before the system ups trust levels and system limits.
We can increase this. The limit is per post, so you can get around it with consecutive posts, though this can get messy.
If no change was made, that worked for me. I was able to make a long post with about 20 thumbnails after a couple of days.
