Multi RS Solar reducing PV power when buying from grid

Hi all,

I’ve three Multi RS Solar in a 3-phase setup with PV solar connected to phase 1 and 2. I’m running DESS in Trade Mode.

I’m seeing weird behaviour with the PV power when the system is buying energy from the grid. When the system is buying from the grid it reduces the PV power with more than 50%. I’ve contacted the official Victron supplier in The Netherlands and they say this is normal behaviour. When in trade mode it overrules PV power and gives priority to buying from the grid.

To me this sounds completely rediculous. Why reducing PV power, which is FREE energy, and giving priority to buy energy from the grid which is NOT FREE. To me this sounds more like a bug or wrongly programmed.

Please see below screenshots of today. And no, it is not a cloud, it is a very sunny day with no clouds in the sky.

Is there a developer here which can explains my findings?

Because in some places you are actually paid to take from the grid so it is an earner not a cost. Which is trading.

That would be trade.

If you want to be green then use green mode.

Or better yet if you don’t have dynamic pricing stick to normal ess

Which venus version are you using?

On the production version there currently are some issues with unintendet throttling on the MultiRS. They are supposed to be fixed in the current beta and will be officially released as a 3.7x as well.

You can switch to the beta in the firmware settings of the gx, if you want to give it a try? Your official release version will remain as a second image, you can boot it any time later again.

I’m running the latest 3.72 venus version. Just update the firmware to bèta 3.80~14. Let’s see of that solves it.

So if I understand correctly the situation what happens is not suppose to happen, that it is a bug?

It depends.

There IS one bug (<= 3.7.2), yes - but there are 12 other things that can cause throttling, where it is indendet to happen.

Checking with the beta that fixes the bug would show if this was the cause for your system, or if it’s something else.

I was having the same issue with a similar setup. Fixed it by installing the latest beta 3.80. Happy now.

I’ll check the next few days. Last weekend the energy prices where so low (negative) I’ve switched off our PV’s. I’ll keep you updated in the next few days.
