Just purchased a 12/12-18A charger for my fishing boat to charge a 100 ah Lithium battery that feeds my electronics. The Mercury 115 Pro XS has a 35 amp alternator and based on what I can find, this should be ok. I can’t find anyone else that has this configuration (Mercury 115 Pro XS with a Victron 12/12-18 charging a 100 AH lithium) to confirm that this works and is sustainable. I would appreciate to hear from anyone with the same or similar (35 amp alternator) setup to reassure that I’m not heading towards problems. Thanks!
I can not confirm your specific equipment but the typical advice is to run at 50% of the alternator rating to avoid overheating. Your Orion matches this so should be OK as long as any other loads on the alternator are relatively small.
Well here’s an update. The setup works perfectly and yes this does pull a bit more than 18 amps to feed the battery at 18 amps. The ability to adjust the voltage settings on when it starts is great and i’ve set it up to 14.7v and that is when the motor its around 2000 rpm. I also have a toggle switch in the dash to decide when to allow or not charging. If i never report back that means I didn’t encounter any issues with the motor.
