Thanks for your help. I’m using the central stud on the neg busbar of the M10 Lynx distributer for the 4/0 cable ground running to my Multiplus. The chassis ground is connected on the far left of the busbar.
By issue is the ring terminal on the ground stud. The lug pad overlaps the insulation on the ring terminal and prevents proper seating. My preference would be to put the terminal on top of the lug but there isn’t enough slack in the wire to get it off the stud.
Do I understand correctly that you are referring to the insulation on the existing ring terminal that is already on the stud? You could use a knife to cut back the insulation a bit and/or file the offending edge of the 4/0 terminal down a bit. Or just pick a different stud on the negative bus if there is one available.
My solution was to move the smaller red ring terminal on top of the lug I installed.
I had to unscrew and remove the plastic bar for the other lugs to be able to do this, but it was all in all a very simple operation.
Did you by chance take photos? I’d love to see what I’m dealing with under there before I pull everything apart - it’s currently fully wired and fused aside from the ground cable. If there isn’t enough slack regardless that will be frustrating! Seems like a terrible design.
It is my ground. The ground that goes to my Multiplus. It needs to be comparable to the current-carrying conductors on the MP which are also 4/0. But even with a smaller lug, the issue of not being able to lift the ring off the stud to stack them properly seems like a crazy issue in the design, right?
It’s a van. The chassis ground is on the far left of the neg busbar. All the diagrams I’ve come across (Explorist, Vanlife Outfitters etc.) show this configuration.
I am not following you here. For me, this is what grounds my electrical to the chassis as my main dc bus ground. I used a 4/0awg for this myself. I absolutely would not use a 16mm² for that lol. Maybe I am missing something?
I don’t use the chassis connection as part of the circuits on the DC side in my camper, all have negative connection to busbars. It’s simply a earth for the Multiplus.
I don’t see anything there that indicates that should be a small wire for ground, though. For me, that negative on the Lynx Distributor is my system ground to chassis. Batteries to the power in (2x314ah 12v 2/0, then lynx shunt, then lynx distributor (ground 4/0, mp2 4/0, mppt 100/50-6awg, and a distribution bus-6awg). So I need to have a large gauge on my lynx distributor ground. I figured that was pretty normal for my install, but I am still pretty new to this stuff lol.
